Navigating Grief

Everyone deals with grief differently and many life events can bring about grief, not only the loss of a family member or someone you love. It’s important to go through the grieving process to be able to move forward. However, if the intense feelings of grief persist, or you are finding it difficult to grieve, it may be necessary to seek help and support.

Symptoms and Signs of Grief and Loss

Grief is a complex emotion, which can be expressed in a number of ways, and each loss is unique. Some of the common experiences of grief include:

  • Sadness without relief
  • Withdrawal and isolation
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Poor appetite
  • Guilt and regret
  • Denial or disbelief of the loss
  • Anger toward self and others
  • Physical reactions such as tightness in the throat or chest, muscular weakness, lack of energy
